Tips to plan a bicycle tour

Be motivated in lockdown

As the whole world is in lockdown due to pandemic Covid-19, it has now became very important that you should keep yourself motivated in this lockdown and away from any depression. Exercise and meditation advices are given to you keep you up. Professional biker, amateur and recreational cyclist around the whole world now have had to find new ways to train and stay physically and mentally in shape as their event have been cancelled . This situation had also occur with other sport professional too.

Your motivation to train may well have waned, but for many the lockdown provides an opportunity to shift focus to work on improvements to their bikes in the garage or their fitness on the turbo, or to plan new routes for when the 'all clear' finally sounds.

To make the most in isolation and ensure you don't fall behind in fitness or focus take these tips on board.

  01. TAKE THE HIT:

Those events and plan that you have scheduled are now gone or rescheduled so no need to upset for that now. And don't feel guilty for any big issue. You can get upset about both. there is no normal way to feel during this period.

02. RE-SET YOUR GOALS:

So now if you are ready to get started, then start by making your goals and plans again. Regain some control on the situation with those 'SMART' goals.

                                          S- Specific
                                         M- Measurable
                                         A- Attainable
                                         R- Relevant
                                         T- Timed

These shouldn't be any performance based. You could set goals like to discover new trails and put together some training loops. So you could create the perfect loop that's 50% off road, with some elevation like 1500 m.

03. MAKE YOUR WEAKNESSES STRONG:

This lockdown is the best time to work on your weaknesses. You could have long term and short term goals. Short term ones may well have gone but you can give yourself some intrinsic goals that work toward the bigger ones. Like if your long term goals is to win a time-trail series you could improve your position on the bike by becoming stronger and more flexible.

04.SCHEDULE TRAINING:

As already told, you must make plan for your training but it should also be properly scheduled. Motivation to train may wane if you're not able to complete those levels or distances you're used to but that's no reason to give up. We humans crave structure and routine and if you're working from home this can be difficult as the environment and distractions may be quite novel. Make yourself a specific work area and give each day a scheduled- work your training and riding into this, creating a daily slot. And put your whole focus on it.

05. KEEP TOUCH:

We are evolved as social creature so isolation and lockdown can make you uncomfortable, it can be harmful to your mental wellbeing too. So make time to stay in touch with your friends and family members in a safe way you can . Try to keep connected with your cycling buddies through social media. This would help you to keep yourself motivated and energetic.

06. TAKE PROPER REST:

It's always important to take proper rest whether it is a busy day or a lockdown. But it is also possible that the temptation to stay up later or sleep longer may also arise, and your work aren't so strict that you run the risk of unsettling your body clock, the resultant risk of weight gain or a dip in sleep quality and duration can supress your immune system. Try to stick to your usual sleeping hour as much as possible to stay rested and healthy.

07. STAY FIT :

Even if you can't cycle in this time, try to use this time to push yourself a little more. The rush you get from a hard workout helps combat stress and ease anxiety.
Try to challenge your friends. Like having a body weight session of push ups or turbo session challenge or any other challenge that help you and your friends to keep up with your health and fitness.

  1. Thanks for the fantastic post that has come to me at the right time. As a professional scuba diver, I have been severely missing my Water Sports activities for a while. The sedentary life is already stressing out my whole body, and thanks to you, I have successfully made a goal plan. I'm sure all these adversities would end soon, and I will be able to hit the waters again.
